Elche is based in a plain crossed by the mountains of Molar, Tabaià and Castellar, last foothill of the Bético System that they configure the variety of landscapes in the municipal district where the palm tree is a constant and typical element. The Elche reservoir, built in 1632, colletcs the waters from Vinalopó river that crosses the municipal district.
Near the downtown there are 12 kms of beaches where the dunes mixed with the pines in a beautiful and typical Mediterranean landscape. In the north part we find the vast dunes belonging to the L'Altet beach and la Senieta and extends to Els Arenals del Sol, tourist center with a big service offer.
Next we can find the beaches of Les Dunes and El Carabassi (nudist beach) and L'Escull, on the base of the Santa Pola mountain. To the south the beaches of El pinet, Les pesqueres, La Marina and El Rebollo, transparent waters and thin sand, invite to take a bath and walk between the pine wood.
Inside the municipal district you can enjoy of a fabulous place with very important ecologic value: The Fondo small lake.
Around the city there is an vaste zone of thirty rural towns. In this agricultural place called the Elx land, the pomegranate, fig, dates, citrus fruits, almonds, cotton and several vegetables are harvested.
